Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I worked with Adullam Life Counselling (ALC), a Christian ministry that helps hundreds of families restructure their debts with licensed moneylenders every year.

Through these debt restructuring efforts, many families and relationships have been saved. I have personally witnessed broken families, strained marriages, and even divorces that resulted from overwhelming debt.

Thank God for the work of ALC. Their ministry is truly commendable.

According to information published by ALC, one of the most common reasons people borrow from licensed moneylenders is caring for dependents.

This caught my attention because many people who seek help are not borrowing to finance luxury purchases or an extravagant lifestyle. Instead, they are borrowing to care for the people they love.

Some are supporting elderly parents.

Some are paying medical expenses.

Some are caring for a spouse who can no longer work.

Others are struggling to provide for their children.

These acts of sacrifice are admirable because they are motivated by love.

At the same time, they also reveal the painful reality of our fallen world.

On one side of society, there are people who spend thousands of dollars on a single meal.

On the other side, there are people who must borrow money simply to provide basic necessities and medical care for their loved ones.

The contrast is heartbreaking.

The Bible teaches us to care for those who are vulnerable and to help carry one another's burdens.

"Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." (Galatians 6:2)

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress." (James 1:27)

"Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done." (Proverbs 19:17)

As Christians, we should never ignore the struggles of those around us.

Instead, we should ask ourselves:

How can we help?

Can we support a struggling family?

Can we contribute financially?

Can we provide practical assistance?

Can we encourage someone who is losing hope?

Giving generously is one way we can help.

We must remember that we are merely stewards of God's resources.

Nothing truly belongs to us.

"The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it." (Psalm 24:1)

When we see ourselves as stewards rather than owners, our perspective changes.

Wealth is no longer measured by how much we accumulate, but by how faithfully we use God's resources to bless others.

One day, Jesus will return and restore all things.

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain." (Revelation 21:4)

Until that day comes, let us continue to shine His light in a broken world.

May we be generous.

May we be compassionate.

May we faithfully care for those whom God places in our lives.

May you be the light of the world.

"Faithful stewardship is not measured by how much we possess, but by how faithfully we manage what God has entrusted to us."

Blessings,

David Poh
