Dear Brothers and Sisters,

After attending the annual conference sometime ago about financial stewardship in Orlando, we explored a compelling topic about how Americans often sponsor fellow believers to help cover expenses and salaries for those serving the Lord so that these believers can dedicate their lives to serving the Lord instead of worrying about their livelihood.

This practice, while common in the U.S., raises an important question: Why isn’t it as prevalent in Asia?

Let’s dive into this thought-provoking issue together.

Are Americans Loving the Lord More Than Asians?

This is not a matter of nationality or a reflection of faith. I want to clarify that this isn't about drawing lines between cultures, nationality or suggesting that one group loves the Lord more than another.

Many Asians are deeply devoted and love the Lord just as much as anyone else. The difference may lie in how we translate our beliefs into action.

Putting Faith into Practice

Discipleship is not solely about belief; it’s about putting what we learn from the Bible into practice. Here are some points to consider:

  • Cultural Differences: In many Asian cultures, there may be different approaches to community support and financial contributions that focus on collective responsibility rather than individual sponsorship.

  • Understanding of Service: The concept of supporting fellow believers financially may be perceived differently across cultures. In some regions, there might not be a strong enough emphasis on personal sacrifice for monetary assistance to support Kingdom’s servants.

  • Encouraging Action: We need to inspire each other across all nations to embody our faith through action, whether it’s giving time, resources, or money, to uplift those who serve. It’s important that we allow those who serve the Lord with a worry free mind in livelihood.

A Call for Change

Imagine what could happen if more believers embraced this proactive approach to discipleship and community support!

  • Start Conversations: Let’s discuss how we can encourage one another across borders, to practice sponsorship and support in ways that resonate with our cultural contexts.

  • Share Success Stories: Highlight instances where financial or emotional support has made a significant impact within your community.

Together, let’s challenge ourselves to take our faith beyond belief and into meaningful action.

Thank you for journeying with me on this important topic!

Blessings,

David Poh
