Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In a The Straits Times article dated 6 January 2026, we read about two individuals involved in an extra-marital affair spanning more than 30 years, now locked in a legal dispute over money.

We are not here to judge. All of us fall short in different ways, and everyone deserves grace and the opportunity for repentance and restoration.

Yet, there are important lessons we can humbly reflect on.

First, two families were deeply broken because of the extra-marital affair. God calls us to faithfulness—to honour our spouse and to hold our marriage covenant with reverence and perseverance. In situations like these, it is often not the two individuals involved who suffer the most, but their spouses, children, and extended families who bear the deepest wounds.

Second, the affair ended not in peace, but in court. This reveals another sobering truth: relationships that are not stewarded well often spill over into other areas of life. Financial matters, when mixed with unhealthy relationships, can quickly become destructive. Money that was lent or borrowed during happier times became a time-bomb when the relationship deteriorated.

So what can we learn from this?

  1. Be faithful in your marriage. Pause and consider the impact of your choices on those you love most.

  2. Borrow only for the right reasons, and with wisdom and accountability.

  3. Repay your debts and honour your financial commitments.

  4. Pray for financial provision that comes from the Lord. Money tied to unhealthy or “unclean” relationships cannot be a blessing from Him.

  5. Money that does not come from the Lord will eventually bring trouble, not peace.

As a community, my sincere prayer is that we will be rooted in healthy, God-honouring relationships, and that we will grow in wisdom to manage our financial resources in a way that pleases Him.

May the peace and grace of the Lord be with you always.

Blessings,

David Poh
