Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Something came into my memory this morning.
There was a season in my life when I used to park almost daily at a certain public carpark. Many times I would leave my car there for up to half a day. It was a special place for me, the place where I began my mornings with a walk with the Lord. After that, I would continue my work at the food court next to it.
It cost me quite a lot in carpark charges each day. I tried twice to apply for a season parking, but the carpark owner refused to sell me one.
One day, after topping up my CashCard, I forgot to insert it back into the in-vehicle IU. To my surprise, as I approached the carpark barrier, it opened.
I realised something was wrong.
There was a bug in the payment system. The barrier would open whenever a car approached without a CashCard inserted.
Wow! To many people, this would be a great discovery.
Now I knew how I could park there every day and exit without paying. It was not my fault. I did not ask for it. It was the system’s fault. They had to blame themselves for it.
And I was quite confident that anyone who experienced the same thing would not report it, so that they could continue to “enjoy” the “free” parking.
Not to impress you, but to impress upon you.
That is not me.
Because I am a disciple of the Lord, not just a believer.
A believer believes, but may not act on the Bible.
A disciple believes and acts on it.
This was stealing.
We would be stealing from the carpark operator. These were fees rightly due to them. It was not right.
So instead of taking advantage of the situation day after day, I decided to give them a call. I told them about the fault in their system so that they could fix it before losing more revenue.
I even offered to pay for that day’s parking.
They refused to collect from me.
Haha. Perhaps out of gratitude.
Let us ask ourselves:
When no one is looking at us, but we know Jesus is looking at us, will we exchange our heavenly treasure for earthly wealth, worse still, for a few dollars each day?
In our daily lives, many times we come across situations where we could easily take advantage.
The question is not whether others will see.
The question is:
Will we do it, knowing Jesus sees us, even when no one else does?
Food for thought today.
May the peace of the Lord be with you and your family.
Blessings,
David Poh
